Dumpling House, Chinatown, Toronto
Tens, tens, tens across the board. If you ever want to know what time most restaurants close in downtown Toronto it’s generally that. For that reason we found ourselves in Chinatown, and Dumpling House Restaurant, which is closed Tuesdays but open until 11pm on all other nights.
Late Night Dining
Our afternoon (and subsequent evening) shopping got a little away from ourselves and escaping the Eaton Centre foodcourt didn’t leave too many other dining opportunities. Most restaurants were closing up, so we headed westwards to Chinatown with the promise of more late night eating.
Dumpling House would be our choice, I haven’t had any dumplings in a while and well, I didn’t want to do any more walking. Service was warm and friendly, and there’s quite a few tables available at this time of day. As with most Chinese restaurants there are countless options offered on the menu. Of course, the dumplings, as well as fried rice, omelettes, noodles, stews, stir-fries, deep-fried things and all the other good stuff. Something tells me the portions were going to be large and that proved to be true.
The fried dumplings were great. They have an option to mix things up with three varieties for only an extra $1. Most dishes are under the $10 mark making Dumpling House an excellent choice if you’re on a budget, or have a big group.
We went with the guilty but always worthwhile fried dumplings in a choice of pork, mixed vegetable and spinach. The quality of dumpling is very good, and we enjoyed the three flavours we went along with. Of the three I enjoyed the Pork and Chive the most, the mixed vegetable one was a bit on the bland side easily remedied with some dipping sauce.
We had a gigantic plate of beef noodles as our second dish, again, value at under $10. I did find the noodles quite greasy, but the flavours were nice. There’s a slight dash of sweetness. There’s not a lot of beef/ or vegetable/ or non-noodle things, but again, I’ll forgive it for the price and there was enough to take home too.
Overall – great experience with the Dumpling House and worthwhile for the dumplings for sure.
