BeaverTails, Harbourfront, Toronto

BeaverTails pastries have been a big part of Canada’s food history. The product first debuted in 1978 and more recently and locally, have opened their first permanent store in Toronto on the harbour front, replacing the seasonal kiosk. A BeaverTail is a wheat dough that’s stretched, deep-fried and then served with a mass of confectionary on top. We ordered out the No. 5 Avalanche with Skor Cheesecake and caramel.

It’s all sizzled to order and it wasn’t long till this oval health hazard was in our hands. I had my doubts, but this treat was fantastic. The fried dough becomes an indulgent, sugary pleasure and it was a messy, guilty pleasure that was happily shared. I had to block out the part of my mind where I consider calorie counts and fat contents but for a once-in-a-rare occasion, BeaverTails sure hit my spot.
