The Boatbuilders Yard, Southbank, Melbourne
The Boatbuilders Yard in Southbank is an amazing location right by the water but the food offering was flat and the service from the staff was flatter. I caught up with a friend before he was about to jet off to London and went with the bacon and eggs on toast to start my day. Ordering is a DIY affair, which I’m fine with but was not terribly well explained and it took a decent while for anything to come out.
What a turn of events. Now in 2017 I’ve now moved to London and my friend is back around to Auckland. Life comes and goes so readily, eh? What has changed is my love for a good brunch. What better way to start the day then by taking it slowly and with bacon. Yes!
I did like the venue of Boatbuilders Yard a lot. It’s handy by the river, picturesque and its a nice walk back to town if you don’t feel like taking the free tram. I’m very much looking forward to returning to the bright lights of Melbourne, however far/ soon off that may be.
The only bugbear of the riverside location was the volume of flies, but ’tis the season at the time. This is definitely not the case here in the UK. Which is something I haven’t really noticed. Until now.
The food at the Boatbuilder’s Yard was on the side of average and the bacon ended up tasting a bit dry, I would have preferred a fattier cut of bacon. Eggs and toast as expected. A good spot of catching up here at Boatbuilders Yard before heading next door to be touristy at the Eureka Tower. It’s functional and makes for a nice spot to chill out for a while, without being interrupted by anyone.
