Shuji Sushi, South Yarra, Melbourne
Shuji Sushi in the Vogue Plaza (ooh la la) is my new sushi local at work. It is part of the rather big sushi chain, which has twenty stores across the state. I can’t say I’m a massive sushi person, as I don’t eat seafood myself. This cuts down the majority of the menu for me. But I always order the vegetarian (or equivalent option) and this keeps me plenty happy. Also! Chicken sushi. It’s not such a big thing when it comes to the boxes.
When someone asks why I don’t eat seafood, it’s because I grew up in a fish and chip shop and was always surrounded by seafood. At some unremarkable point in time I decided I didn’t like the taste of eating it and that was it. Every now and then I’m pressured to have a little sample and I won’t say no. But for me – I’m happy with my seafood-sans diet.
Back to Shuji Sushi, the sushi selections are rather cookie cutter. There’s the Australian-signature giant hand rolls as well as pre-packed boxes. They also offer hot meals and bento boxes but I haven’t yet had a trial of these yet.
From memory my vegetarian sushi box was about $8 and it comes with all the expected vegetarian ‘alternative’ sushi. There’s tamago, seaweed salad, inari, avocado and some other vegetable ones. Everything was good, tasted as expected, filled me up as needed.
Nothing super exciting but does the trick when I need some lunch in a hurry!
