Kin Thai, South Yarra, Melbourne
When I first moved to Melbourne I was based in Claremont Street of South Yarra and I went to Kin Thai quite a bit. I recently popped in for their lunch offering but it wasn’t quite as good as I had remembered. The bain-marie food was a little dried out and the taste was average.
I’m not sure if it’s new owners but old Kin Thai used to have daily specials. Like a pad thai, or curry or other stirfry. They also had a huge selection under $10 and it was nice and fast too. Also close to the house which helps. Naturally it was one of my first regular places at least until I got a little more settled into South Yarra and Melbourne and discovered how much else there was to discover.
Rather than a lunchtime special 2019 Kin Thai has prepared foods which does up the ante in the speed. It may have been due to me coming on the late side of lunchtime but the food was way dried out which didn’t make for as tasty of a meal. The curry was less affected but food can get too soft after too long out. So based on that I’ll score it a bit average.
It’s okay for $9.80 (including rice as well as stirfry and curry) but something I wouldn’t jump up for.
