Hello Sam, South Yarra, Melbourne
Hello Sam Burger Cafe in South Yarra has been a long-standing part of my introduction to Melbourne. Four years ago I got a voucher as part my welcome pack in my new apartment. And this year, I had another voucher as I started working down the road from it. A little on the pricey side without offers, it’s still stands up with solid burgers and friendly service.
It’s on Chapel Street, up from the busy intersection with Toorak Road and a bit aways from the hive of Chapel Street madness. There’s plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor and it’s not usually too packed. For a burger place, Hello Sam has an impressive range of menu options including popcorn chicken salad, fried chicken and lots of burger options as well.
The Bacon Bird (southern fried chicken) burger is $16 which is on the high side for what you get, but everything tastes great. There’s bacon, cheese and the Hello Sam is delicious to boot. I guess now that I’m not in the UK, getting fries with your burger is no longer the norm so you’d need to fork out $5 more for those.
The other time I headed to Hello Sam I went for the popcorn chicken salad. This one’s $17 and the salad is a little bit basic but the chicken is yum. By weird salad I mean jalapenos, a few chickpeas, salad mix and a few other veges here and there. There’s a definite kick to the dressing and the highlight is the fried chicken pieces.
When it comes to the burger variety, there’s a lot to sample including a good throw of vegetarian options. I haven’t yet worked my way through the menu but the “truffle shuffle” sounds fun. That’s a mushroom arancini patty with cheddar and truffle mayo.
It’s a fun time at Hello Sam and there’s some burger goodness to discover for sure.
