The Old Paper Shop Deli, South Melbourne
The most incredible of the windows on Clarendon Street are the cake-lined ones here at The Old Paper Shop Deli. It’s a colourful and eye watering display to lure you in. It’s a huge menu here with almost twenty cakes on display, various cheesecakes, full sandwich bar, bakery items and hot food options. Everything about this place is big, including calorie count, our portions and its prices to some degree. We frequently get sandwich-based catering for work from here and it’s usually good. DJ Peter went for the lamb shank meal one time and that thing looked huge enough to give someone a good clubbing.
I went to satiate my sugar need on the last venture, opting for the peanut butter caramel crunch cheesecake. It is tough to decide. At $8.90 it’s a little hefty for a single serve but you get a hefty cut to match. I quite enjoyed the cheesecake which wasn’t overly heavy but could have done with a bit more richness in terms of flavour in the filling. The peanut and caramel combo is one of the more popular choices I’m told. There’s probably a bit of a gamble on the baked items, especially when there’s so many to choose from, who knows what sells, is fresh, etc.
