Honey Bar, South Melbourne
Honey Bar is a little notorious in our work eating circle as it’s an seemingly incongruent mix of pub, restaurant, function centre and largely because it’s also a bit further to walk to than the other food options. I’ve often gone for the candied bacon pizza which is a winner, and easy on the pocket, as the menu ebbs and flows into different price territories too. Though if you’re really unlikely you might find a hair like my poor colleague.
Waiting times at Honey Bar can be volatile depending on the size of the group and in their defence, the menu is pretty varied from pub to fancier. So after all that, I do think the food is great and I feel the chef(s?) really puts effort into the dishes. Sadly, the tasty dish below doesn’t seem to be on the menu these days, but I loved the pork belly served on crispy noodles with slaw. The cracking was delightful and the meat was tender and tasty. And so much meat too. Grand.
Pro tip: mind the wait times, there’s also specials
