Flour, South Melbourne, Melbourne
The biggest lunches around this part of town came from a small, unassuming little cafe called Flour just across from the road from the South Melbourne Market and open on most days, but not Mondays. For the size of the establishment there’s a ridiculous number of food options and the salads and Italian hot options all remind of homely cooking. Most of the time we opt for the $11 lunch combo in which you select a salad (or two) to accompany something from the hot cabinet.
It’s best to arrive early to get the most optimal selection of what’s on offer and there’s always at least one thing to take your fancy. Featured above and one of the best choices is the lasagna. Hearty, cheesy, creamy and will fill your appetite like it will fill your arteries. We’ve definitely surmised it could make up two meals. Other hot options have included risotto, beef or chicken pies, chicken tenders, pastas and the choices rotate often enough to keep things fresh. Most are good. But always get in early.
The caesar salad is my favourite here for the second part of the meal, with generous lashing of bacon, egg and cheese and the barley and couscous options are my back up go to’s. Plenty of other salad options are there for the taking too. A serious feed can always be found at Flour for sure, and you can get some sweet baked items for later as well. If you’re even still hungry, that is.
