Grill’d, Melbourne Central, Melbourne
It’s always a good time at Grill’d. It’s such a people pleasing venue that comes in handy whenever you have a big group type of situation. The Grill’d in Melbourne Central is rather consistent to the expected Grill’d experience. This store does offer a nice dining area in the complex with plenty of seats for groups of any size.
Like with other Grill’d you grab your own drinks and make your own order at the counter. There’s the usual options around what bun you want, and to this day I’m still not sure which one I really prefer. And the agonising choice of what type and size of fries.
You can’t go wrong with the $14 mixed chips platter. The herby french fries are a winner especially with the herbed aioli and I always have a soft spot for the zucchini fries. How they manage that magnificent crunch – I have no idea.
The burgers never look super huge but looks can fool as you’ll definitely get your fill. They have a new thing: pork belly burgers. You get a decent patty-like slice of the pork belly, although the price zips up to the $16 mark. I went for the Southeast pork, which features carrot and cucumber slaw, Spanish onion, coriander, mint, lime, roasted coconut and mayo.
The slaw is wicked spice, take care! I did like the pork a lot, it’s a bit harder to eat – pork isn’t so bitey like a processed patty. The slaw and citrus and veges are nice, it’s a good contrast. Overall the experience with this Grill’d was mostly positive all round the table. The only qualm is that I didn’t order enough of the fries. I’ll remember for next time I promise!
