Father’s Office, Melbourne
A most centrally located dining experience off Swanston Street overlooking the State Library and one road over from Melbourne Central. Father’s Office matches it’s handy location with a cool vibe and some enticing menu offers. My friend and I love the half price after 11pm offer, which sorta makes the dining menu more palatable. The bar items aren’t bad either for more of a drinking-focused affair.
At half price, everything gets a bit exciting with things priced to clear and I’ve worked my way though most available options. Perhaps the menu does seem to have minimised since I first came. I had the steak which was great quality for the (discounted) price and a significant serving. Only downer was the fries being lukewarm. Popcorn chicken is a bit too much crumb and not enough meat. Baked camembert was tasty. Cheesecake was fine if not a bit overly rich and dense.
I really enjoy having a spot like Father’s Office in my eating places repertoire, and probably half a point is due to that rather than the food. The late hours are handy for weird nights out and the price absolves half the usual regret with late night eating. I rate it to as a drinking spot, the balcony makes for most excellent people-watching though it can get crowded at times.
Pro tip: definitely keep an eye out for specials and hit it up after 11pm
