CJ Lunch Bar, Melbourne
One of the cheapest and busiest Korean places in town is CJ Lunch Bar, concealed in Little Lonsdale Street and easily identified by the queues forming around. Two reasons: great food and cheap as chips.
Plenty of the dishes at CJ Lunch Bar have hovered around the $10 mark for at least the last three years. Naturally it’s a popular haunt for the fiscally challenged and the penny savers. The menu is extensive and the sharing dishes are more in the norm for price range. No matter what size your group is, and what your appetite there’s a perfect fit at CJ Lunch Bar. Try and get in early or late, because it’s gets crowded fast.
Honey I’m home
The first time at CJ Lunch Bar I went for the honey pepper chicken don for $7.90 and this so quick and so good (a more recent visit reveals it’s no longer on the menu). It’s a decent sized meal with crispy chicken in a subtle, peppery sweet sauce. There was also token salad there for token balance and I happily finished off the order content with the offering. Quality is okay for the price.
I’ve returned a few more times since and have also enjoyed the bulgogi, the sweet potato noodle and a mystery soup dish I have no other memory of. If you can get a table, it’s a definite recommended cheap eat around these parts. For $10 you get so much food. You won’t head home hungry.
Pro tip for CJ Lunch Bar: it’s closed from 10pm and on Sundays.
