Aqua S, Melbourne CBD
I was pleasantly surprised by my first taste of Aqua S, so much that I ended up going back the following day for another salty swirl. Their signature blue sea salt flavour has a lot to make you think it’s yet another cheap gimmick (especially coupled with the awful fairy floss), but the soft serve itself is an interesting taste that so far has pleased me. It’s an odd one to describe, almost like a salted caramel minus the caramel but its still sweet. Good creamy and tasty from top to toe.
Oh yeah, the other flavour in the swirl was the purple yam and there was a hazelnut one on offer too and I assume these ones rotate. For two of us the sea salt was the better of the flavours and in some ways overwhelmed the other notes. Four dollars is a solid deal for a cone of the swirl though I don’t think the add on offerings are terribly worthwhile other than making for a boastful snap. I do have one issue though and that’s how fast the product melts, and that the cones have a hole. It was cool on this night and can’t imagine how speedy that would be on an actual Melbourne summer’s day. Plus the dripping goes straight onto your hands. And pants.
