American Doughnut Kitchen, Melbourne
It’s spelt wrong and not my normal kind of donut but the hot fried jammy ones at Queen Victoria Market are super fun and tasty to buy. You don’t need to buy the five for $5.50, it’s perfectly legitimate to buy singularly for $1.10 and you be satisfied with that. There’s a constant queue that does move fast and it’s enjoyable watching the kitchen whilst you’re there with the dough whipping and throwing. It’s all worthwhile in the end as these are my favourite jam donuts in town.
The dough balls are rich and chewy and each has a squeeze of jam (make sure to blow so you don’t get burnt!) and are liberally coated in sugar. I wouldn’t have more than a few at all, as it is greasy and sugary over time but one or a few is perfect. American Doughnut Kitchen also has an adorable family website and it’s cool that’s it been in operation for so many years and here’s hoping it’s around for many more.
