Pho Hung Vuong Saigon, Footscray, Melbourne
A bit of a mixed experience with our visit to Pho Hung Vuong Saigon over in Footscray. Great prices and the pho was excellent. But the grilled pork on rice was rather bad. It’s a small piece and so dry and inedible. So all good if you stick to the noodle soup, don’t try and be too adventurous here.
Pho Hung Vuong Saigon is one of the busier Vietnamese eateries on Hopkins Street. It gets a lot of pedestrian footfall and a lot of customers too. It appeared that most people came in for the pho, and that’s our recommendation to. Try and get the biggest bowl you can, because you’ll definitely be wanting more.
If I can steer an order, we weren’t that experienced with the com. The piece of pork you get is about the same size and the egg (with some bones). The real problem of this dish is that the meat is so dry, it’s very hard to eat without some liquid. You get a bit of shredded pork which helps, and some fish sauce to dress the salad pieces with.
The pho from Pho Hung Vuong Saigon was yummy. As with most things in Footscray the prices are mega reasonable and the portions sizes can get crazy. In terms of service, it’s functional without being fun or fantastic.
