Stagger Lee’s, Fitzroy
My final brunch for my visiting friend was held at Stagger Lee‘s, a charming corner cafe in Fitzroy that was one of my colleague’s brunch recommendations whilst in Melbourne. This had been on my to do list for a while, much like my tax lodgement. Like the ATO’s new platform for lodging your tax return via MyGov™, getting a table was nice and easy (minus the part evading the bogans who couldn’t decide to go in or not) and service was efficient. Christina went with the seafood omelette special, which she said was pretty good but nothing astronomical.
I went the light and fruity route as I sometimes wake up like that, and ordered the terrarium ($13) which was a coconut rice pudding, burnt orange curd, autumn fruits and puffed rice cereal. I was mainly relieved this wasn’t anything nearly like the horrendous “terrarium” from Om Nom that still haunts my food-based dreams. Lovely mix of fruit, and was a delish rounded little cup of joy. I would have some preference in tweaking the ratio, was a bit too much dry to wet in the end. Probably could’ve, should’ve asked for a side of milk possibly.
Low fuss little brunch spot that also had a good looking range in the cabinet as well. Be like the couple next door and forego your house deposit for smashed avo, as apparently that was quite good as well.
