Trang Bakery & Cafe, Collingwood
Up there in terms of the best banh mi I’ve had in town, and probably one that feels a lot more authentic and traditional. From the shop front it hardly looks like much with a typical deli-style fit out, however the queues out the door suggest you’re in for a real treat. Today in Victoria it’s Grand Final Eve (that’s a thing now) and it was serving patrons as normal when I went in for my second lunch.
On this occasion I went for the pork belly roll and it delivered for sure. The meat ratio at Trang Bakery & Cafe is killer, with plenty of crackling as well littered across the course of the roll. They seem to give you different cuts of pork as well. The bread might not be as good as the ones over at N Lee, but I really enjoyed the mix of meats, the slaw, pate, butter. It all came together so nicely, though my main qualm was my roll split in the middle (due to sauciness) which made it difficult to eat. Fantastic value for $7.
