Pabu Grill & Sake, Collingwood

Pabu Grill & Sake, Collingwood

After my first choice of eatery, Aka Siro, was super fully booked, we opted to try another popular Japanese option in Collingwood which was Pabu Grill & Sake. It could squeeze us in on this busy Saturday night and we ordered a wide selection of items and sake to get us cracking. Service was efficient and all the items came to the table pretty quick which was a relief for our appetites.

We made sure to order as much as we could from each section to get a good view of what they offered. First to arrive was the gyu tataki which was thinly sliced seared beef with roasted sesame, spring onion, red ginger, mayo and a few other items. This had out night off to a good start and we were looking forward to the rest of the order.

The menu isn’t incredibly traditional, nor cheap, but they do offer a bit of varied asian influences. The pork bao and chicken ribs were probably good examples of this. There were competent but not as memorable as some of the other items. We all enjoyed the renkon chips which we’re getting used to now and the yakitori and ebi kushi were pretty good.

Dish of the night was the Robinson Island wagyu nigiri with the blowtorched sear on the beef just fantastic and although it was the most expensive option it was universally agreed as the best. Overall we enjoyed Pabu Grill & Sake, it’s just a tad pricey for when you get when you consider the other options in the neighbourhood.
