Pilau, Soho, London
Pilau left me a little confused as it’s kind of an Indian-street styled affair, but then it isn’t. The normal menu option is that one selects a size, than a main filling followed by toppings. Mine was different as it was via Mealfix so I imagine these choices were preset. The dish is described as a paneer curry salad with rice. However, there definitely was no rice here. Also, it’s simply a weird dish, and way to eat a curry. It wasn’t a curry, it was more like paneer with sickly sweet chili sauce. Yeah, so I didn’t quite enjoy it at all. The paneer cubes itself were nice, but not assisted with the slathering of the sauce. The salad made for odd company. I dunno, I felt Pilau was taking Indian food into a pseudo-modern direction I didn’t really buy in.
