Kebab Delight, Wood Green, London
Staying in the Wood Green meant making the most of the many, amazing Turkish delicacies nearby. The areas is rich with this community group and that shows in the local cuisine on offer. I was lured in by the sweet wafts of the bain-maries of Kebab Delight, but ended up sticking around for a lunch of the doner lamb meal (£7.50). Don’t let the price fool you, this is heavy load of food.
Nice to meat you
I enjoyed my little week and a bit staying in my Airbnb in Wood Green. At first, there was some trepidation in the realisation I would be based in a Zone 3 neighbourhood. But that wasn’t a bad thing in the end. The way London is built out you always seem to take at least forty minutes to get from one part to another. There’s already a grand amount of Turkish restaurants in Wood Green, and they’re all well priced and well portioned. Be sure to bring your appetite and they’ll bring the food.
Dining in time
At Kebab Delight the staff are friendly and happy to get you sitting and ordering in no time. I had a funemployment lunch time and enjoyed my cosy little mealtimes. As with a lot of Turkish restaurants here, they throw pita, salad, tzatziki and (another mystery) dip before you even get your main course.
Find a doner
I don’t normally tend to go for doner kebab but the one from Kebab Delight looked like it wouldn’t disappoint. And it didn’t. Doner kebab does get a bit of a bad rap at times. It’s seasoned meat stacked in an inverted cone and turned slowly on a rotisserie for vertical cooking action. Thin shavings are then served up in meals.
Food that delights
The little side touches are all lovely, and even the feature of corn in the rice keep it interesting. When it comes to doner meat, I don’t need that much and I get a little over it after a while. It’s all tender though, and never dry. Great value and an ideal lunch stop. Best shared rather than stuffing yourself too much.
