Kiosk, King’s Cross, London

It’s a paradox of a lunch. The Kiosk is designed to be a takeaway place given a) no seating and b) it’s King’s Cross. However, the food they serve really needs to be eaten in the minutes that follow after being handed it, the meat is hot and the eating is messy. I couldn’t go past the Pork belly white roll (£5.50) with apple compote, sage stuffing, slaw and mayonnaise. Crackling (the real reason I ordered it) comes separate, though I liked to snap it apart and pepper it across the sandwich.

I found the compote a bit too overbearing, and made the roll a bit too sweet but the meat is gold and carries the melt-in-your-mouth goodness of being served warm. It’s a big sandwich and was plenty to keep me going during my afternoon.
