GNH Bar – Great Northern Hotel, King’s Cross, London
If you fancy a little fancy, head over to the Great Northern Hotel Bar (or known as GNH Bar). As the name suggests it’s part of the GNH complex and it brings a touch of glam for any after-work drinking affair. We headed in for some cocktails and ended staying long after to indulge in one of the bar “snacks”. Located near the King’s Cross station, GNH is a most handy London railway bar. It’s perfect for killing some time pre-commute or just on a dreary work evening/ morning. The interior of the bar is luxuriously decorated, you feel just that little bit special sitting in leather seats under chandelier lighting. The cocktails are an inspired selection, and we worked our way through several with no disappointments. Staff are equally happy to provide recommendations.
For food, I sampled the sirloin sandwich (£15), with watercress and horseradish, and this was accompanied with rosemary fries. I enjoyed this evening sandwich very much. The grilled sourdough was crispy and butter, and the sirloin medium rare and tender. The rosemary on the neighbouring fries was too subtle, but I enjoyed the fry just the same. As a more decadent venue, GNH Bar doesn’t rate so well in value-for-money, but I had a great time with the drinks and food.
