Mapa Cafe, Fitzrovia, London
I’m not completely sure what the schtick with Mapa Cafe is, but there’s three of them in London. They offer a jack-of-all-meals approach: there’s sandwiches, Vietnamese food, coffee, bagels, sandwiches. So whatever takes your lunch time (or other time) fancy. A little confusing but I’m not one to argue with lots of choices. I had the Vietnamese noodle salad with pork belly. Yeah – pork belly! It’s good here. They slice it to order so it has that crunchy crackling. You might not be able to see it under the garnish of peanuts, shallots and coriander. The sauce on the salad is all up to you and I went with my buddy hoisin. The noodles need a bit of rough housing to get the distribution right, but it’s a nice -if not, odd, mix- for your speedy lunch break.
