Our evening on our Oxford day trip concluded with a dinner at Chiang Mai Kitchen. We paced ourselves rather well over our time in the city. The meal arrived at the point with just enough to get back to to the station with ease. Chiang […]
I’d love to have a home near Thai Home. And my friend is fortunate to be in that situation, being mere seconds from the front door in Roncesvalles Village. We dined in for the $10 set lunch, and this was straight out incredible. It’s not a […]
Since arriving in London I hadn’t made it out to a mall, and there’s something always reassuring about being in one. I think it has something to do with the fact that you can sustain a livelihood should you never want to leave. Clothes, entertainment, food, it’s all here. I for one, wouldn’t be disappointed should one day I accidentally got locked in a mall. Fingers crossed. Of the foodcourt choices at Shepherd’s Bush Westfield, or She-bu I was once told, Chikara Teppanyaki looked fair. Well, at least the plastic props give a good impression of the food.
I went for the £7.90 beef ramen, which was a stir fry. You get a buzzer and it isn’t too long for your order to be collected. It’s a nice little dish, but the beef has a rubberiness that tastes cheap and the noodles were a little sloppy. The teriyaki sauce was nice and at least didn’t have a food court standard of greasiness and regret after eating it. So you know, a fair dish that probably doesn’t taste quite as good as it looks.
The smells are as alluring as are the prices at Papaya. Both things were remarked on by other queue-goers at this busy Soho lunch stop, offering mostly Thai-themed dishes. But then random things, like sushi and dim sum. What? £5 got me the red curry […]
I don’t often have leaving-the-country dinners, but when I do, I pick the biggest and most central spot I know of. And Cookie is perfect for both of those. The huge space in the centre of Swanston Street accommodates many. As well as the handy spot, […]
The girls and I headed over to South Melbourne Market for lunch, there was plenty of sun for a change and made for some lovely alfresco dining. Dragon Room is the second Chinese eating option to Mama Tran but isn’t necessarily second with great value, great tasting cuisine. I went for the large lunch combo which is the usual pick your base and two dish affair. Mine was rice with the sweet and sour pork and chicken and vegetables. It’s a mixed bag much like it’s a mixed dish.
I must have been doing something right that day though as the sweet and sour pork was fresh from the fryer and tantalising crisp and satisfying. The sauce was a bit too goopy but tasted reasonably familiar. I had a weird bit in my chicken but otherwise that and the rice was good. After a hard morning of dealing with some interesting client characters the lunch and the sun was a pleasant mid point break. Here’s waiting for summer.
Okay food but an experience that feels like a random assortment of beginners’ vegetarian recipes and staff that need hipster qualities massively toned down. For a place that’s been around for so many years Vegie Bar has such a surprise cult following and that has been […]
Back in the days when I was slumming it with the Route 55 tram folk, I’d walk past the site of Thai 29 and not think much of it. However, reports of it’s excellency began to trickle through the office and it became our choice […]
There’s not always a lot of options way out in Point Cook and I think China T is one of the few Chinese options over in the Sanctuary Lakes part of town. It’s a nice sit down type of place where dishes and stories are meant to be shared alike in big tables. I was there for the food pics mainly. And to eat I guess, but at this point I’m hardly ever hungry.
We ordered the impressively sounding Shan Tang chicken, which was de-boned crispy chicken served on a salad along with a spicy and tang soy sauce with crispy peanuts. My friend ordered the kung pao chicken stir-fry and we had a beef fried rice to go with the dishes. I was happy with all the items ordered, the kitchen doesn’t skimp on the meat although I could have done with a few more items to mix it up. I guess that’s where the group ordering/ sharing comes into play. A competent outcome although slightly on the pricey side but that comes with the geography in this case.
